God this has been debated so many times. #1 avoid royal purple there are way to many stories of it failing and causing engines to fail just use the search engine. #2 use 5w-30, 5w-20 was recommended for cafe standards if in doubt just see what roush and saleen recommend on their engines... They recommend 5w-30 funny how the oil recommendation changes when cafe standards are no longer in play. And not only that one of the engineers that was on the s197 engine design team has explicitly said that 5w-20 was recommended for mileage reasons.

Androdz2, the search engine is still not working properly (at least not for me). Give him a break. 5w-20 will work fine in our cars, as will 5w-30. I used Royal Purple for a couple of changes and had no problems, but changed back to Mobil 1 because I didn't notice any difference with the RP so I couldn't justify the cost.

Good choice. That is what I'm running right now (full synthetic) and I've had no problems.

Oh I didn't know it wasn't working my bad. Royal Purple 5w-20 doesn't pass gf-4 specs and has been found to be the cause of premature engine wear and ultimate failure. 5w-20 trades off protection for a fraction in mpg. It doesn't sound as a lot but when you are talking about a whole production of cars it ends up being a massive #. 5w-20 is not enough for our cars, I have seen many oil analysis showing 5w-20 breaking up and loosing viscocity. An engineer that practically designed the 4.6 3v recommended to never use 5w-20. So in this case I am going to listen to the person that was part of the engine design crew. NOt only that amsoil clearly states 5w-20 is not recommended for our engines and so has redline. BTW redline/amsoil are the two best oils out there.

Oh, I was running RP 5w-30. I switched to 30 at the first oil change.

I've been using Mobil 1 but I've heard so much good stuff about Amsoil I'm tempted to switch next change.
