Default odd sound coming from rear

the sound, (a metallic-like rotary sound) occurs distinctly at about 1900x RPM with light to medium throttle. im positive its coming from the rear passenger side of the axle. i jacked her up yesterday, tightned every thing i could and still no luck getting rid of it.

Any ideas of what it can be before i take it in to ford?
thanks

Have you done anything to your exhaust lately? There's a rash of issues with a sort-of grinding/rattling noise at about 1800-1900 RPM related exhaust clamp tightness, hanger-to-chassis interferences, heat shield resonance...

I have an 08GT and at drive-thrus when I accelerate away I can hear a tapping like that of a ballpoint pen on a table. I'm guessing it's the 2 piece driveshaft causing this on mine because it sounds like it's coming from under the middle of the car and only under a load. Not when in Neutral or Park and just reving. I plan on driving up on my ramps this weekend to check out the under side. Haven't done it since I've owned it (6 months) and I'm curious to see what points could be causing the noise. If I dont' see anythign obvious then it's going to the dealership. If it's interference from something (like a heat shield) then I'll figure out myself. I would rather not waste days on this at the dealership.

hanger-to-chassis interferences...thats my problem...just got under and beat the hell out of the hanger with a rubber mallet and noise was gone

Prolly have a chicken stuck back there...

It has to be exhaust related though.
Check all you clamps and wiggle you system to see if it touches the axle housing anywhere.
Do this with jack stands under the housing at each end so the load is on it, just like the car sits on the ground.
If the jack stands are under the body, the rear assembly then, hangs down, you won't have a true reading because it will be too far from your exhaust pipes.

Good luck.

this is all good advice, the only thing i have done back there would be the axle back gt take off but i installed that about 5 months ago. il go under and check the clearence and clamps and tighten everything down.

You might want to check your e-brake cable. I had a metallic sound coming from the rear of my car when I had my V6. On the third trip to the dealer, it was found that the e-brake cable was not attached well and was rubbing against the driveshaft. Kinda scary.... But it might be worth a look!
