A good advice here is: get off my ***!
You're just another "know it all" that doesn't have a clue about body work, or cars in general for that matter...
And where is it that I said it wasn't corrosion??

The scrape and touch up deal was just a quick advice for him not to sink tons of money with the dealer by repainting the whole underneath of contaminated panels.
Yes, it can be done by chipping away the bad paint and treating the metal surface (primer) before applying any paint.
If it was bad all the way across or on a big area, that wouldn't work, of course.
You can get away with that quick repair since it's underneath and no one sees it, unless you plan to make a show car out of it.

To Alloysixer...
It's hard to tell by the picture, but on the trunk, it might be necessary to use a small sandblaster to get rid of the surface rust if it's too deep...

my main concern now is will this reoccur? pascal you said that whatever manufacturing defects would've shown by now, or at least by the end of my warranty term. does this mean that this will be a permanent fix?
I have to assume that the tech guy is right, since I can't see your car...
If it is a dirt particle or something of that nature, you won't have any problems later.
If it is some kind of contamination, all bets are off.
I could be wrong but my guess is, with contamination, you would have more than one area reacting on you... It appears that it's not the case.
Double check that roof real good though.

One thing's for sure... If it was to comes back somewhere else later on, the only remedy is to strip the roof to bare metal and start from scratch. Costly...

I don't wanna burst you guys bubbles lol, but if it didn't happened yet, it won't.

My guess is that it's not corrosion, but rather prep contamination at the factory.
The sweat/moisture of a human finger on bare metal or aluminum is enough to screw the pootch.

Who knows what happens at the plant...

^^Does that refresh your memory? ^^
And your clues to fix rust is sand, prime and paint! Yeah right, Hello again rust in 2 weeks

Read the thread from the other forum a user posted in this thread. It seems your roof problems could be fixed but who knows where it might happen next. Read that thread and you'll find the answer. Over time people have had this problem on other area's and spreading. I'm glad you'll get your roof painted. Thats a good dealership!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed thats for sure!

You're the one posting your "patch jobs" not me. 30 years experience? In what, new car prep and clean up?

jet 21. you do know who you are talkin to right. jet21 posts on this forum= 79
pascal posts on this forum alone= 3815 enough said. boy the man has been perfecting mustangs and other cars since you werent even twinkle in your dads eye. he's right you dont know anything about cars. sit down read posts and understand who has a lot more experience to bring to the table. learn from them and when to open your mouth. if you only could see half the cars he's made look like show cars you wouldnt say a word about his knowledge as a body tech. there is a reason everyone in the florida area takes there cars to him to fix. he's that good.
and you would be surprised how many 05-09 mustang v6 and gt's have this problem. mine does and im a stickler about how why car looks. have a spot over the drivers door and one on the decklid. but not worth it to me to take it to ford and open up that whole bag of worms. ford wont fix a gas tank problem that they swear they have fixed. even with arbitration they still win. you think you stand a chance to get them to fix anything paint related? not worth my headache. and i can just take it to my bodyshop here at work and get them to wet sand and buff it for free or just a 12 pack. makes things a lot easier.

Thanks for the kind words sir. I guess I missed you post earlier...

I can't help eventual jackasses chimming in and lay down their thick BS on these boards.
Not the first time, not the last.
I just wanted the OP and another member to have all the facts/options before making a move with their cars.
An 08 Mustang is too new to have serious rust problems... like seriously pitted or even small holes.
It's only surface rust at this point. You can treat surface rust.
I have done those spot repairs on F150s and the S197s hoods with success.
Charged customers $20 or so (15mn job) and the problem never came back on the area that I treated.

You sure won't see me arguing with guys like modaddict, hammeron, PLstang etc... about mechanical or computer stuff.
Those guys prolly forgot more than I know about those subjects lol.
