My buddy had an x pipe and flowmaster exhaust on his '05 and it sounded terribly raspy. He put a set of equal length shorties and it totally smoothed it out. I couldn't beleive the difference.

sorry, i'm gonna mini-hijack the thread again. does anyone think it's worth spending the extra money for ceramic over chrome for a daily driver? (there is a $100 difference in the bbk types)

no dont spend it , spend the extra money on a heat extracting hood if your that concerened about the minimal amount of heat. somebody posted a really good test of under hood temps of with ceramis and non and the diffrence was so minimal that it was a joke.

Just my 2 cents. Absolutely. The underhood temps in my car was reduced tremendously. Plus the more heat under the hood is also bad on every other accessory on the car not to mention the increased hp from lower heat and increased efficiency of the exhaust.

The best thing to do is find someone with a good set of ceramic coated headers and pop the hood and put your hand inches from the header pipes and do the same on a chrome or stainless. Make sure both car are operating temperatures and you will see the difference. Then shut the cars off and see how quick you can touch the ceramic vs the chrome. There will be no comparison.

your juddging by the "in your mind meter" its similar to the seat of the pants meter...

your exagerating greatly. The test that was done the diffrence in heat was so minal that so many diff things could of have affected the temps......obviously you did not read that thread. Somebody else can chime in or whoever posted it can find it again for you.

The stock manifolds are going to give off more heat or as much as any aftermarket product I assume? so the underhood temps been bad on all the other accessorys is also far fetched...

Like I said before if your that worried about underhood temps the only thing that is worth while is to free up your front grille area so its more free flowing and getting a functional heat extracting hood.

lol are you serious man c'mon? you can not judge **** by what you just said, only way you could even come close to actually judging by your hand or your body , is stuff yourself under the hood and stay there for a hour long and let us know the diff...

shutting the car down is a diff story, your not worried about how fast your headers cool off unless your running at the track several times.

somebody find that thread for ^^^^ please

Have you picked up a stock manifold??? Thery are heavy. They are thick!!! They don't release as much heat in to the engine bay as a set of 14 or 16 gauge steel tube primary headers. Not even close.

By the way....chrome is a plating and it "blues" from the heat. Why do you think motorcycle exhaust systems have heat shields or they are "double walled". OK....i'll tell you why.
So you don't see the bluing that the heat causes......and so you don't burn your legs (or melt your boots, but hey doesn't matter).

Chrome also rusts if you don't stay on top of it.
Stainless headers are nice. They will change color a little from the heat. Not like chrome though. Painted headers, well the paint usually blisters then goes up in smoke literally. Even 1200* engine paint.

Ceramic headers will keep their look. The coating helps a bit too. But it's your car. TOMBSTANG...this is based off MY experience with headers on different vehicles. I realize that someone read an article. So of it may hold some truth. Not all of it.

If everything in writing were true, then maybe some of you would be interested to know that there is a Bigfoot corpse for sale on ebay.

don't the BBK headers start to rust after like a year? they're not 304/409 stainless are they?
