Default Hood Scoop question.

I love the look of Cervini's B9 Hood scoop because it seems to be the biggest of the stick on scoops. The only problem is I hate that it is non-functional and I would assume seeing as it is a scoop it will scoop air but if the air can't escape under the hood wont that hurt aerodynamics pretty badly.... so i was wondering (puts on flame suit for being a tard) if you could cut a whole much like you would for the CDC Shaker underneath just to let air escape and possibly even cool the engine or maybe even get a CDC shaker and then put the B9 Scoop over the shaker? BTW I dont really like how "small" the shaker system scoop is and not sure how much i would like the actual shaking if I were to just get that one.. any idea's? Im going for an old school boss mustang look so a scoop is essential =).

Unfortunately a lot of hood scoops are non-functional. I, too, have thought about possibly drilling holes into the grill of my hood scoop and then cutting a hole underneath it to insulate the engine and make it more than a decoration. Someone here told me they were going to try that sometime back, but I've yet to hear back from them. So I'm not sure how well it would work. If I could do it over again though I would have saved up and gone for the Shaker.

I wonder how the electronics (coils, injectors, etc.) would like having rain on them?

Fullboogie your telling me that a little bit of water is gonna hurt my car.... mind if i ask how you put your shoes on this morning better yet type in Mustangforums.com? Water is part of every enviroment if a car is gonna have problems from a little bit of water getting under the hood then I dont even know why we still use the damn things...... (sense the sarcasm?)

You can always go with a full hood that includes the boss 429 style scoop and it's functional too.

Sir, do you understand how an engine even works? Do you know what ECU's, batteries, and spark plugs are? They're all kept dry because of the hood. Now, imagine if there was a huge hole on top of your hood. Would all those electronics still be dry?

LOL...your engine getting wet is not going to hurt a damn thing. You think it stays perfectly dry in a heavy downpour? What about if you spray the engine at the car wash then drive away? Does everything short out and die? NO!

The only thing you don't want is water to get IN the engine. But unless you have some really stupidly designed intake, that won't happen.

Things that need to be protected from water are sealed. If you have an engine with exposed wiring you better get that fixed ASAP!

Same thing with a motorcycle. I've washed mine and driven it right after and driven in the rain. Nothing bad happened there either!

Oh and think about this. What about a jeep with a snorkel that's driving almost completely under water? I'm pretty sure its engine is a little damp. My dad has a jeep and it doesn't look any different under the hood than any other car. There's no special things going on there. Engines can handle water on them, just not going INTO them.

Well yeah, engines can get wet and work perfectly fine. I'm talking about an engine hydrolocking from water getting in the cylinders.

i agree with you completely on this matter. i considered the shaker momentarily but i too thought it looked a little "puny". but i have yet to see it in person so i could be wrong. i was thinking about swapping my hood scoop out for another though..
