I'll try removing the plate where the headlight switch is located on the dash. I want the footwell lights to come on exactly like the overhead map lights. In other words, I want them on only when:

1. You press unlock on the remote
2. You open a door
3. You rotate the dash dimmer all the way up

What I don't want is them on all the time or when the headlights are on.

The way I described the process in an earlier post in this thread will make it will work exactly like you want. I've done it on mine and for a friends Mustang as well.

Cavediver, I was hoping to find the wires under the dashboard that feed the overhead map lights because then I wouldn't need to add any switches. I could simply tap in under the dash and not have to disassemble anything.

But then the footwell lighting would only work with the map lights. They would not dim with the dash lights either that way. It is nice to have that 'glow' in the footwells at night while driving that you can dim with the dash lights. If you add the on/off switch then if you don't want it at night you just turn it off.

FWIW, it takes all of 2 or 3 minutes to remove the console, it's very easy.

Today, I removed the plastic molding that covers the A-Pillar on the passenger side. It simply un-snaps and gives you access to the map light wires which run along the pillar next to the windshield. I T-tapped into those wires and now I have exactly what I want going on under the dash. If you do it this way you can have foot well lighting when:

1. You open a door
2. You press unlock on the remote
3. You rotate the dimmer dial all the way up

all you had to do was pop out the headlight switch and tap into one wire. you'd have exactly what you wanted PLUS the option to dim it with your interior lights
