Default What kind of maintenance at 40k miles?

Thanks for looking! I traded in my new '06 V6 last December for my '06 GT that I have now. The GT had about 18k miles, and now has almost 40k. Other than changing the oil I haven't done anything to the car to keep her fresh and I'm wondering what things I should have already taken care of, or should expect to take care of in the near future.

A few things that I've noticed in the car:

Several weeks, maybe a couple months ago I noticed that when I turned on my headlights and all of my interior lights lit up, the lights that show the placement of my headlight switch didn't light up. The indicator would come on if I turn on my fog lights, but not just to show regular parking and headlights. A little while after I noticed that happening, my check engine light came on in an amber color. I called a friend and took it to his house and he was going to see if he could figure out why.

I took it to him cause Ford wanted $98 for a diagnostic fee. So he gets the car and tries some stuff with the key and nothing does what he expects so we just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a little while and reconnect it.

It's been a few weeks since then and the engine light has not came back on. Also, when I left his house that night, the lights were working that show the location of the headlight switch that had previously stopped working. But about a week later they quit coming on.

While he was messing with my car and revving it, he asked if I had a cold air kit and I told him no. He said it had a louder sound like it was trying to breath under the hood than it should and thought that maybe there was a vacuum issue that hasn't shown up.

My engine is currently all stock, but I plan to get a CAI & tuner package early this next year. Any suggestions on things that I should have already had looked at or maybe changed already? The only aftermarket performance mods I have would be my Corsa exhaust. Other than that all my mods are cosmetic.

Thanks for reading, I hope I made enough sense trying to describe the things I've noticed.

Replace your fuel & air filters.
Look into pulling & lubing the spark plugs with anti-sieze.
Get a CAI & Tune!

Changing spark plugs is always good, +1 on the CAI and Tune, and fuel filter is also good...

Is the fuel filter something I can get to personally to replace or do I have to take it in to get it done?

Any ideas on the weird lighting problems on my headlight switch?

Maybe a bad wire, I think that switch just pops out with a flat tip screwdriver, and I changed a fuel filter on a 2002 BMW 5 Series but not the stang... I think it can be done...

I believe the most important maintenance would have to be changing the fuel filter and air filter, the fuel filter took me only 15-20 minutes. I would also look into a transmission flush as Ford suggests 30k and I know my V6 has 38k so I am looking into getting a tranny flush by next month.

is there a service schedule here for the S197?
I keep forgetting to bring my owners manual in so I can find out what's due next. It'd be nice to be able to bookmark a page.

Fuel filter replacement shouldn't take you more than 15 mins. I think somebody did a writeup on that procedure, too. It's located under the car where the driver's seat is
