2009 Mustang Sync Option
The 2009 Mustangs have a dealer install Microsoft Sync option. I’m ordering a system and I’m wondering if anyone else on the forum had one installed by their dealer and how the installation went. The system its self is pretty cool with Bluetooth, voice commands, thumb drive support, Zune, etc.
I just upgraded from the AVIC D3 to the F90bt, pretty much the same options as the Sync minus the contols on the steering wheel. The clarity using the bluetooth is amazing, (not sure if the upgraded speakers have any effect but...). Voice commands are fantastic too. I also have XM and the IPod adapter, flawless. I love it.
Ford does not have Sync controls for the Mustang steering wheel either, they use an add-on control pod (dash mounted) and the built in controls on the radio and dash. The USB interface is mounted inside the center console next to the auto jack. The 09s come with Sirius XM built in by default.
To install the Sync system the center console and other stuff must be removed and I’m wondering how much the dealer can mess up on the install. I’d rather do it myself but you need a laptop with a ford/Microsoft application to configure and test the system.
Here’s the Sync website http://www.syncmyride.com

. I'd consider installing it myself but I don't want to be the one responsible for ruining my dash or trim.
My car came with it. Its pretty cool. I still like talking on the phone but when I'm driving its cool not to have a hand on the phone next to your ear. Also when you are talking onyour phone when you turn on your car it picks it up. Pretty sweet!
Here’s the Sync website link http://www.syncmyride.com Sync only works on the non-nav equipped Mustangs. It is a fully integrated onboard computer (Microsoft Automotive) with Bluetooth voice phone control (with sync for phone contact lists, text messaging, audio streaming from the web, Caller ID, etc), USB voice control for thumb drive media, Zune, Ipod, etc. with intelligent music indexing and playlists (dynamic and user defined), and audio line in voice control. The integration is pretty awesome. You can walk up to your car while you are taking on your cell phone, get in the car, start it up and the phone call automatically transfers to Sync without interruption.
Ford charges $419. For Sync plus about $200 for the install. The install is pretty complex and requires a Ford laptop computer system that is connected to their website the car service port and the Sync USB port.
