Maaco Painted Stripes
if your trying to save some money, go with vinyl...... I bought cheap 35.00 7 year oracal to experiment on my car before painting stripes on. I never installed stripes better yet any kind of vinyl yet i was able to tackle the task in a weekend. Was not the easiest thing, but i loved it so much i said eff busting a grand on stripes when my vinyl makes me happy and i can replace it whenever i want for around 40 bucks and a weekend.it has been on my car for almost 7 months now and no problems.... Why paint unless your gonna go for top quality? Im pretty sure you will be happy with vinyl
I got my 98 Honda Accord painted at Maaco years ago. I went from a dark color to a light color. It was my commuter car that I drove daily, so I was looking for the cheapest paint job around. I think I paid around $350 to have the whole car painted. The paint job suited me fine, because I wasn't looking for a show quality finish. My father-in-law has this car til this day and the car doesn't look bad. My point is that it was a decent job for the price. Now when I had my 06 ML350, I had to get my passenger door repainted. So I went to one of the better known paint shops in the area and very pricey. (Insurance was covering it, so it didn't matter.) When I went to pick it up it had tons of overspray - it looked like my door was crying with all the runs. Come to find out that they let a newbie spray my car since it was just a door. Just because a place is pricey does not mean they can paint well.
Don't take it to Maaco. They use **** for materials period. Your better off(as mentioned) getting a vinyl stripe kit. Go to a few shops and get some estimates, save your money up and pay to have done it once. You have plenty of time to wait while you save,no get impatient and possibly waste the paint job the car already has.Just remember this, once your stripe your car and its still under warranty that painted stripe job will void your factory warranty. If its still in effect.
yes I know everyone here hates Maaco from what I've heard but I wanna know if anyone has actually got stripes painted from Maaco. I just called my local Maaco and he quoted me $250-$300 for "12" black stripes bumper to bumper he did say that on the outlining of the stripe where if you touched the paint it would be slightly off with the factory paint (but not visible), but for $200 they would add a layer of clear coat and do some other technique so that wouldnt happen.
So anyone have any views on this , I'm looking @ $500 for painted stripes. When I hear most paint shops are around $1200 , and the cheapest I've heard for even Vinyl is $550 installed in this area.

You get what you pay for, comeon man dont ruin a beautiful mustang with a botched stripe job, i just got the rear left quarter panel and reared repainted on my mustang, got it done at a ford shop. It was insured so price wasn't an obstacle,
they called me after i got it back asking for my rating on all the aspects of their work, including the paint. they ask for your rating 1-10, the guy at the ford place told me anything BUT all 10's is considered a Failing grade for the crew by ford. and i have to say, it was all 10's you cant tell anything ever happend or anything was ever repainted, it was absolutely perfect.
I guarantee you, you wont get CLOSE to that kind of service at maaco, they concentrate on doing the cheapest quickest paint job around, the quality of the paint job is going to reflect that.
If maaco is your only option atm price wise, i just wouldn't get stripes for now.
Atleast spend the money on something that not going to RUIN your car if it screws up.

I had a 1989 Jeep Wrangler that I had Macco paintcherry red for around 500 dollars. The paint job was not very good and I could see over-spray on my chrome door guards and bumper that I had to use paint thinner to remove as best I could.
The customer service was horrible and the lady suggested before I took the Jeep in to get a body shop quote instead of have them paint it if I was looking for a top self job.
My point is, it was fine for my Jeep as I crash it up on the weekends and paint chips make a Jeep a Jeep but a mustang! No Sir, would only take it to a AAA approved body shop that does quality work. Hope you make the right choice and don't regret anything.
If you want stripe that look great on the cheap, I suggest vinyl stripes....they are easy to put on and last 5 to 7 years for only 50 bucks....cant beat that!

dude if u really wanna go 2 maaco that bad go 2 macco...but dont come back here bitching about anything bad that happened...b/c there will be a few ppl here ready 2 give u an i told u so...i have seen a few cars painted my maaco and it didnt even look like they prepped let alone washed the car b4 they sprayed it...i think its a waste of money 2 take a new car there...if u want painted stripes that bad go 2 a reputable shop...but the most cost efficient way is vinyl
Sounds like you are better off going without stripes if you can only afford the Maaco job (or going with the vinyl stripes). I have a similar poor quality story from a friend in high school. No need to repeat here, since if you aren't convinced yet, this one isn't going to make any difference. There is a time and place for a cheap paint job - and this ain't it....
