In negotiations for used 428R...advice?
okay heres the deal....i been seeing this 428R at a car lot here in town for like the past 6 months....well i stopped today to get the trade negotiations courtship over so we can get into some real wheelin and dealin....the car info is here: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...aler_id=313201 ...well they are wanting 34.9 for the car and it has a bit over 12,000 miles on it....when i got there, one of their salesmen came out, really nice guy, starting talking about the car, then the fire department and who he knew up there, this and that, then me looked at my car then popped my hood, i heard all the oohs and ahhs...then i test drove the car, smooth ride...when we get back, we go into his office to talk...well i said first off that i need 3 conditions met: no down payment, a payment around what im paying now (i pay 430 now but can do up to about 550), and give me at least what i owe on my car...my car is an 05 with 47k on it and i could easily sell it for between 20 to 24k (when i go to shows people are always asking me if its for sale)....i owe 15.5 on it....well the salesman gave numbers like 35k for their car, give me 14.5k for my car, and a 748 monthly payment...when i heard this, it was just unbelievable....i know for a fact that my car wouldnt sit on their lot a month before they sold it for 24k...my car sits on display every day i go to work and has become known as the "fire department mustang"...its crazy how many lookers and admirers i have got...now, is it too much to ask for more on my car and less on their car, u know, kind of narrow the gap there to make the deal work or am i just out of my league here? i mean i made 47k last year and no house payment so i have money, just dont want to have that much of a payment...do you think its manageable to get a 550/mo or less payment on the 428 with this deal?...is this game worth playing?
i would go by the 10 rule which is after the first offer you should be able to get 10% off there car and 10% more for yours so you would be at 31,500 and 16,000 for yours so that leaves 31000 for the car plus tax title and lic. so that would be about 660 a month. that will be the worst you should end up with. now go in abd low ball them
Hit up ebay and price match and go back to him with some comparisons and then call his bluff. I am pretty sure you can get abetter deal then that.
I dont see you getting near 24k for your car though with that many miles on it. You can buy a brand new mustang basically for that. Remember modding doesnt increase the value , if anything its decreases it and the more performance mods you have the less likely people will want to buy it even though you may baby it , they think he modded the car to race, just goes with the territory.

well i know i wouldnt get 24k for my car from the everyday ole car buyer on the market, you just have to take it somewhere where people know about cars and their upgrades....i go to a lot of car shows and the crowd i need is there...it takes a special kind of car buyer to value our cars and those buyers drive by that lot often....if i threw the ebay comparison at them, they would take it and use the same thing on my car which will keep everything the same lol....
there are 2 things i like about the 428 that mine doesnt have and that is the s/c and its manual tranny...other than that, to me my car is >...its tough though, i really like the car and want to buy it but need to play the game well to get them to move on it....i played it cool the whole time in negotiations and walked out just as smoothly before the salesman stopped me...they said the reason they quoted me so high is because my bank (who financed my car) was closed today so they couldnt get some info...he said they'll call me tomorrow after they talk to the bank...i know right now that their car lot isnt selling much and need to move their cars so i have to find a way to get them down...
