i know the wiring adapter for the shaker 500 is expensive either 80 or 130? from crutchfield, was going to get an alpine with ipod connectivity but the price would have been in the $400s

Yes, the adapters can be kind of pricey, and yes you can do it with out one but they will save you a crap load of time by using one. All the adapter does is make all your wire connections easy so you don't to search for what wire does what on the factory plug. But if you have the time and get a hold of the wiring diagram for your year (which they have on line) you can find all the connections.

I actually got my Pioneer FH-P8000BT through them at a good price with all the install goodies free and great vehicle-specific installation instructions. That said, most of the time, they are pretty high.

You can probably find it on ebay and the double din will fit I have the Pioneer Avic Z1 and fit fine.
