Help! Header stud stuck!
#11
How do those cam style stud removers work anyway? For us not so mechanically inclined people an explanation would be nice. I'm assuming you put the stud through the empty hole and then do something to apply pressure on it with that device. Then you can move the entire device and unscrew the thing.

Yeah I was so relieved when they finally came loose. I will try to get some videos tomorrow and I will do some runs with my accelerometer next week so I can compare it with the data I got from before I installed them. The sound didnt change much at idle, but at high load/ high rpms, it's much louder. I think I might need an OR-H next

I forgot to reload the tune at first and the power felt greater, but not really impressive. Then I reloaded my brenspeed 93 octane tune and now this thing pulls like crazy. I can break the tires loose much more easily now and if I modulate the throttle, this thing takes off like a rocket. In my butt dyno, this mod gave me much more power than the intake/tune or change from 3.31s to 3.73s.

Reloading the tune always results in a perceived boost in power. I'm not sure what it is exactly but some learning tables get reset when you put the tune back on and it makes the car feel a little bit snappier. After you drive it for a while the car learns again and this difference goes away.

I had just reloaded the tune 2 days before I reinstalled the headers and took my accelerometer runs right after reloading each tune. I still felt a massive increase in power, and the wheels are breaking loose like crazy now. The gains I am feeling are due to the headers, not the reloading of the tune.

I didn't mean to make it sound like you wouldn't feel any boost from upgrading the headers. Just explaining that reloading the tune in and of itself results in a perceived boost in power. Your post that I responded to made it seem like you didn't notice anything until you reloaded the tune. Hence why I responded with that.

But you still have to be a little careful and have a little "feel" for this - it might be possible to break the fastener that you're trying to get out.

I know it is too late but for someone else it might help! If you have a stud that is stuck. Get a torch and heat the head near the stud but not the stud. Then when it is real warm get an old candle and put it near the stud and the block and the wax will suck into the threads . It will back out smooth as silk!

Norm thanks for the explanation. I know that a friend of mine had an exhaust header bolt which didn't want to come out on his WRX. Eventually we got it off of there by screwing a couple nuts down onto the thing and then heating it with the torch. PB blaster was also involved. It did eventually come out.
