Alarms?
BestBuy and professionally in the same sentence.....

Not all best buys have crappy installers, I am a electronics guy, but refuse to do alarms. Anyway I have had both best buy and CC install alarms for me and never had problems. Plus both places will back up there install for the life of the car, well of course CC wont now, out of business, but BB will.
Honestly in this day and age, just a regular alarm is not going to do you jack crap, exspecially parked in a lot at night. In general most people just ignore alarms now so that is why they are useless.
Now with that being said, how far are you away from the lot? If someone was breaking in would you do anything? Reason i ask is this.
I have a system called mobile Angel system. It is kinda like Lo Jack, except it works off GPS satalites and doesnt have a monthy cost. It works by buying locates, like 500 are $129, they also have lower packages. And basicaly you only use a located if someone sets off your alarm and you get pages or you track, your vehicle via GPS etc....
But the beauty of this system is if someone breaks into your car it will text your cell phone if you want it too, and it emails you, you can set up multiple email address's plus the cell phone all at the same time.
Bad thing, since you dont have a factory system you will have to buy an alarm plus the system which I think costs $500 installed, at least around here it did over a year ago. But you can buy a really cheap alarm system plus the mobile angel and you will very protected.

a simple spread spectrum frequency jammer
(an old 3Watt vehicular cell phone is the basis)
that renders all those functions useless in
one easy press of the button. Once its switched on,
the vehicle cannot communicate with the angels.

I use one to kill the calls of motorists around me.
They dont need to be calling and texting while driving.

Research the alarm system you plan on purchasing online
to see if there are easy electronic plans to defeat them
using ordinary household items.

Well I know this, but you are not suppose to advertise you have the system first off and second off what he is talking about is everyday criminals that are just breaking in. More then likley they do not have one of these jammers.
So yes if it is a professional more then likley your car will be gone if they are using a jammer, for the everyday joe crack head trying to score something for a fix it will work great.
As to you using one, Well if i remember right that is illegal for you to be doing it so I wouldnt go around saying you have it.

That type of system in normally defeated by

Well I used to work at CC then went to a few smaller install shops. Most of my friends that work at BB are very good installers and I know they don't cut corners as much as the smaller shops do. Not all small shops are bad, but the ones I worked for were all about speed and just getting the car in and out without taking the proper time to install it, meaning just using T-Taps and placing the alarm right under the dash. Makes it so easy for criminals to disable those alarms...just break in the car and look up...then unplug.
as per FCC guidelines. The interference I emit is very legal.

Whats not legal is driving while talking/texting on the cell phone.
Plus its just as fun as 'trolling for taillights' with my radar detector
setter offer for when those radar detector equipped vehicles fly
past me on the interstate even when I am doing the legal limit.
The Beep beep beep beep of the detector and the glow of the brakelights.....
