Are there any other areas that should be covered with a trash bag other than the air filter? Great question and good answers so far

The Ford owner's guide indicates that the air filter, fuse box, and battery should be covered. It also cautions to take care when using a power washer so that the fluid does not penetrate "sealed parts." It also says not to spray a hot engine with cold water.

I just use some simple green and a towel and clean what i can reach!!
After that i use some F21 Turtle Wax Protectant on all the plastics in the engine bay and it will shine for a good while and from what i seen does not attract dust and does not leave a greasy residue just looks really clean!!

I really should clean mine up better it looks like crap but I was always worried about getting something wet that shouldn't be, good to know that it isn't a problem.

I cover up the battery, alternator, c.o.p., filter, and fuse box. Use a degreaser (simple green/greased lightning/purple power), spray down the bay, and use a garden hose to rinse everything off. +1 on some kind of tire shine to brighten everything up.
End result:

hmm i haven't put pressured water on my engine yet to clean it because on my f-150 i had i tried it and the next day the heater core went out...not sure if they were connected but it happening the day after i wouldn't risk it again(my opinion), +1 though on simple green and towel though.
