We have the same issues all the time here in the UK.
It happens on all ages of the S197 (05 right through to 09). It happens mostly between 1/3rd full and 2/3rds full for us here. Filling from below 1/3rd and it goes in like it should.

We've tried all the remedies you guys suggest and some work sometime but even the same pump 2 days running can give the problem. We know all about the TSB's etc. N-one over here has come up with a remedy which has proven to work everytime.

Our pumps run at a much faster rate then the US ones, so we were blaming that. Mainland Europe doesn't have any issues like these at all.

It has to do with the pressure the pump delivers the fuel at. With new gas stations the pressure tends to be higher to the flow rate is higher. Which makes it more difficult to fuel our cars. If you can find an older pump it would give you less trouble.
