Thanks for letting us know what the solution was. I agree about someone posting a problem, getting a whole bunch of different suggestions and we are never informed as to how it played out.

You're going to the dealer anyway, so you might as well put the gas gauge on your list of issues.

If you were just asking for why the gas gauge was not reading correctly, I would give my standard suggestion of adding some Techron. There might be sulfur buildup on a fuel sender sensor, which Techron might dissolve.

It would have been bad if the gas gauge read empty... Mine read 1/2 full so it wasn't my first thought as it's not my daily driver and I couldn't remember the last time I got gas or how much I had driven it.

I'm going to put it on the list, but if it doesn't repeat I'm expecting the dealer to shoot my down on a warranty repair...

I usually run Sunoco 93 in it, I would assume that it has similar additives to techron, but I can always try it.
