GT500 Swap question
Legion does bring up some good points though however you may feel about him personally.
1. Weight. Mustangs don't have alot of rear weight bias already...now add 150-200 lbs to the front-end...gets worse.
2. Price. Most of the GT500 setups I've seen have been close to $10k. I could yank my 4.6, stroke it out, run forged components and a blower for under $10k. And that would get me more HP than a basic GT500 motor.
3. Annoyance Factor. It will all fit. We know that. The hard part is the electronics. That **** sucks. So unless you find every single tiny sensor and wiring loom, you will have a bit of fun.
It's one of those things. I would consider it just for the cool factor. But I'd have to basically have a GT500 setup fall into my lap, and my Mustang be relegated to my Garage for 2-3 months while I worked it out.
now I'm off to read that install thread. I can always dream. I'm not after the fastest car, just one that will make me happy

Until you've driven a blown 5.4 motor...you just haven't experienced the feeling. My 5.4 3v had 477 TQ at crank using nothing but the crappy Roush tunes
a 8 psi pulley + conservative tunes...and you are looking at about 550 crank TQ. That is roughly 460 RWTQ with nothing but a pulley on a bone stock motor.
And don't forget the 5.4 has a different torque curve from the 4.6 motor. the 5.4 has 80% of it's torque curve available at 1,000 rpm

the gt500 does not have a problem with the extra weight in the front, or the "electronics" in the engine bay.you have to be an IDIOT to pass up that deal. even if you had to buy the k-member and trans brace, you would still be way ahead and could still put 850+ hp to it with no problem.to build a block into a stroked 5.0,its going to take $4k after assembly and machining, and get lucky to hit 400hp n/a.
just my opinion, but he should jump all over that deal, even if hes not going to use it.
Whilst it's possible to rebuild the stock 4.6 using forged reciprocals, and have to suffer minimal extra costs above that, the 5.4 remains the best overall package. If you could grab a complete setup from a wreck for 5k I would think it's a no brainer, even with install work.
Let's be honest here, if it wasn't for the superb motor/tranny in the GT500 who the frig would ever buy one? The motor is just awesome... a CAI/Tune and 570hp with 150,000mile reliability? er.yes please

if he can get the whole swap for $3500 w/ tranny, then he would be nuts to not jump on it.just the trany swaps go for $4k alone.

I also don't think you understand when they remove the engine they cut it out many times and destroy the wiring harness, only a smart or unusual junkyard will do something different and also they won't supply you with radiators or intercoolers so you need those too.
I've seen the engine and transmission on ebay sell for $7000 + shipping with wiring harness intercooler and ECU - people on there are asking $10,000 for just the used block but they are CRAAAZY...
A complete kit is the one to get.
