Not really much in the trunk. A bag with clothes and a bag with a few dvds and cds. only other thing in the car was was 16 pound jack russell terrorist. I made four stops before it happened and didnt have the problem.

I am pretty sure the transmissions have a lockout where if it doesnt unlock its VERY hard to get it into gear. My friend accidently forgot to hook his up when he put his trans back in and every gear was hard to change.

Well there isn't anything electrical with the shifter to mess up. It's all mechanical. Could have been a rock getting stuck in it, or like everyone else has said probably hitting something on the bottom of the shifter preventing it from going into 1st and 2nd gear. I had the old shift stock on mine and had the entire shifter break off and was unable to shift at all. But I got with mgw and they sent me the better rebuilt piece to fix my problem.
