Default STS turbo?

A mechanic friend of mine was talking to me about how going FI I should buy these turbochargers that hook up to the exhaust?

http://www.ststurbo.com/mustang_gt_twin_turbo

Tell me what you guys think, if it would be as good or better than a supercharger. Thanks.

i really like that set up alot but, atleast in my neck of the woods, we deal with flooding alot. i could only imagine driving in about 6 inches of water on the road and sinking those turbos...may cause a little bit of damage

My brother did the STS in his vette.. they rock in the vette.. I passed on the mustang for a number of reasons, ground clearance issues being one, the kits not as refined in the mustang as it is in the vette as another, and some issues a while back with oil pumps that caused some STS owners (with mustangs) to either get rid of it and go a different route, or deal with constant headaches.

Turbos are a LOT more difficult to tune and keep running right for a daily driver that a supercharger. I have not heard of anyone using the STS in a mustang in at least 6 months, so I don't know if they have worked out any of the bugs. My brother's oil pumps were super loud, louder than the engine when they got hot, and STS came out with a new oil pump, but forgot to tell him to get some locktite on a screw that covered an unused port. They told him AFTER the pumps had been installed, and he made a note of it and was going to have them loctite'd on the next service, but one came loose and he left a nice line of oil down the street and up his driveway and into his garage. The problem was easily fixed, but what a pain. Otherwise, on his setup, one of the 4 exhaust tips was flared a full quarter inch too big, and they denied it vehemently until we sent them a picture, at which time they told us to get the pipe flared to match. The first few tunes they sent didn't load either, but they straightened it out within a couple days, not the end of the world. So far he hasn't had any other issues and he is putting around 570 hp to the wheels. Being 600 lbs lighter than me and having 345's on the back compared to my 255's, he smokes me in any race, but he has $20k more into his car than me, so it doesn't bother me.. The kit is fairly expensive and installation is much more involving than a supercharger. For any decent turbo setup plan on spending over $8k installed before you are done. Per PSI of boost, you will make more power than a supercharger, and you can get more from the factory engine than with a supercharger because there is so much less parasitic loss. On 8 psi, expect around 500 rwhp and about the same torque, much more than any supercharger can do.

^+1 turbos are harder to tune but you have more potential for power. As for the STS setup I have heard good things on the vettes but not much for the mustang either. I went with a twin setup myself but did the heritage kit from Team Performance. The kit is top notch but uses a pair of Garrett ball bearing turbos and comes with a carbon fiber belly pan to ensure the turbos don't ingest water. Still possible if I went into a huge puddle/mini-lake but work for daily driving.

Just do a search, this has been discussed many times before. Basically stay away from the STS kit.

S281E, i see that you have a 2006 S281E. I know that those things are crazy expensive but dont they come with a twin screw S/C??? What made you decide to take off the S/C and put on the turbos? Wouldnt it have been more economical to by an S281 and add the suspension and TT set-up. Im only asking cause ever since the S281E came out, i have been dying to own one. Only problem was the hellacious price tag.

Sorry for the attempted thread jack, not my intention.
