Default Ball joint or control arm?

So I had to get my Stang tech'd in order to run at Mosport road course Monday 28th.
Car, with 20k km runs like new, smooth as silk and tight as a drum. No bumps/squeaks/rattles She's as clean underneath as on top and never wants for anything........or so I thought.

Reveling in the collective adoration the car receives every time I go into the stealership, I see the tech walking over to me with "that look".
"You need a ball joint"
WTF? First reaction was that it was a scam, I mean, how can that be possible. I'd feel it at least a bit.
But I rolled with it and ordered a lower control arm, which they at least offered me at trade "Because you're JUST out of warranty" - of course.

I've removed the old one and Yes, there's probably 3mm of vertical slop I'll fit the new one after it comes in tomorrow so I'll be good for Mosport at least.

To anybody 'in the know', couldn't I just press the old one out of the arm and a new ball joint in?

Why do you have to replace the control arm?
Are they like 04 and up Explorers, where you have to buy the whole arm when you need new joints?
If it's the case, I wasn't aware that this racket applied to Mustang as well.

And if it's still the case (lol), you might not be able to get the joints only.
Anyway, you should be able to press them in and out...

LOL? Why LOL? What's funny?

Ford told me the ball joints are not available individually and I have to buy the whole arm.
I ordered the part but have some feelers out for other options.
