All that black dust in the above photo would have been inhaled. I for one always recommend driving with the windows up and the fan on as much as possible.
Yeah, "natural" air is NOT pretty. But, do you wear a dust mask whenever you're:
  • outside going for a walk?
  • mowing the lawn?
  • washing the car?
  • grilling on the deck?
Don't get me wrong; I'm all for prevention. But let's not get carried away here. We've lived without cabin air filters from the first car that rolled out of wherever up until not-to-many years ago. Change it at your leisure. Even dirty, it still traps plenty. If it still bothers you, let me know how the dust controlled air lock in your garage works out for you.

Think he was being sarcastic...he has a convertible. Then again I see a lot of 'different people' with verts driving with the top down and windows up.

If you don't change the filter it will NOT allow more of this dirty air into the car, let that thing clog up.

Did anyone else have a surprise when they went to go get this? Just trying to ascertain whether my dealers are being r-tards by not carrying this item in stock.

A bigger surprise was when the service manager said, "Oh sir, you're mistaken, the Mustangs don't have cabin air filters." arrghhhhhh!!!!!

Went to Autozone, picked up a Bosch one from them . It was 2 years ago, can't remember the price, but probably still cheaper than the Motorcraft one.

I have a 2008 Mustang GT/CS. March of 2009 my girl bought a brand new 2009 Escape. The first time we ran some air through the vents, it blew out a bunch of things that fell off of trees the Escape was parked under. I asked the dealer to replace the cabin air filter or make sure their was one in there. They took it in and the technician came back and said there is no cabin air filter in and Escape. So, I guess they're not necessary.

Just decided to change mine in my 07. Guess what the outer part that holds the filter is missing. They just had it jammed in. Anyone have that outer ring that holds the filter for sale?
thanks
