Dealerships are not having much in stock these days. Just have them order the part and it should come in within a few days. Most drivers don't know to even request a new filter whenever it is required, so I doubt that most are being serviced.
With all the fires we get out here I will be checking mine every 6,000 miles.

lol so frickin lame. Just got done with doing the 15k service on my car yesterday.
The lugnut wells in my american muscle DD bullitts weren't machined out very well. They aren't quite wide enough for a standard socket to fit right. I need a thin wall. In the process of taking the lugs out and putting them back on a bunch of paint inside the lug wells got scraped off. It's hard to see it from the outside but the inside of the well is trashed. So now I have rust to worry about. Joy!

Pulled mine out yesterday for kicks, 18K and it's dirty but not $20 dirty. I'm going with the cleanable air cleaner theory of 'let the dirt work for you'.
Why can't someone make a cleanable version like furnace filters? I'd gladly pay $40 for one I could clean every few months and have last for the life of the car.

Cmon, guys! It's a frickin' cabin air filter! Open the windows and you're getting unfiltered air and nobody worries about that. The filter can get dirty as hell and it'll still pass enough air that you won't pass out. What the hell did people do before cabin air filters? And now we worry about them... Low priority, IMO. Mine's probably dirty as hell after 32,000 of mostly-highway miles and it's not eating me up. If it was affecting performance, hell yes... but "cabin air"?
We don't make this much stink about the caps on the valves on our tires and those being deteriorated or missing can leave you stranded.
