No, the bulb itself is longer.

What? Did you get the same number the OP posted here? Go back through the the posts and get the number of the one he used. He said the prongs were longer and just snipped them, but the bulb fit fine.

I tried a bulb from Radio Shack and the bulb part was too big. I just found , online, a place called bulbster and ordered 3 of #7219 which looks like a very close match for the switch illumination bulb. The total with shipping was $15.49

OOPS> See my above post. Bulbster. #7219.

Default Head light switch blub

No auto parts stores carry this. I have the parts dept @ my local Ford dealership looking into it..He is going to call Ford tomorrow and find out what we have to do..he said need to buy new switch, but that's about $100, not paying that for a blub/LED..

I got one from Radio Shack, but the bulb part was too big to fit. I went online and got a couple from some bulb supplier & replaced it. Works fine. If I can find the name of the company I got mine from I'll post it. Really pisses me off that Ford can't supply this. They want you to buy a whole new switch for $150 or so.

Anyone tried these?
http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Halfway down page called "Type B Tall" (LED or regular)

Width measurement of 10mm matches the Mustang bulb although length is apparently shorter. I measured my bulb at about 30mm from base to tip of bulb. (no snickering please!!)

Found more information here. They are used in Ford trucks, so maybe measurement is wrong:

Since I'm in the middle of my LED dash swap I'm going to test these bulbs. Will let everyone know. (Here's hoping I can change the green light pipe in the switch to blue illumination using a yellow LED. Basic science right?)

Wink

I used the LED's from Ebay to fix mine. I also used these same LED's to change the color of my door switches. These were a bright blue color, instead of green. It was quite an improvement. I'd take pics but I put the car away for the winter. There are other colors avail if you should decide to change any other led's. I stayed away from the dash, as I installed the MyColor cluster option. I don't remember if the dash uses 5mm bulbs, but these are the same size as the #74 bulbs Ford used for the radios and other tight spaces. 10mm bulbs are also available for the larger LED's from the same seller.

Use this eBay number 220701467220. Good luck. They worked great for me, and were cheap.

Remember with LED's that they only work one direction. You sometimes have to turn the bulb around before they will work.

I've done the full dash color change using the small (very small!) plcc2 led's. It takes patience and a steady soldering hand. The effect is great. I went with 100mlc blue led's. The door switches are next. The headlight switch has been very frustrating due to the unusual bulb socket. But I think I've found a solution using the autoillumination sockets....see my next post. Oh by the way, I've added blue ambient lighting as described here http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/ind..._1#entry950546

Great, another $23 + S/H just to replace the $0.69 bulb?
