That's what I have been doing for that past month lol. My dad started driving in Mexico, where all they drive is stick. But he hasn't driven stick in the longest time so IDK if he could just go into the Mustang and start driving again lol. Most likely he will fall in love and not give it to me haha. Ill ask him.

Right? Hey the basics is all I need right now I guess. Take that pony home and then learn in a parking lot, that advanced stuff.

The first car I drove was a stick and I've had at least one in the family for the last 50 years or so. The best way to learn to drive a stick is to just get in it and drive. As stupid as that sounds, it works. If you get a Mustang with a manual transmission you will be highly motivated to learn! When my boys were about 17 I bought them S-10 pickups with manual transmissions. They could choose to drive my old Olds station wagon with an automatic or drive the pickups. I worked with them for about half an hour in the parking lot and motivation did the rest. They were driving around the same day. When you get the basics of the clutch and shifting down the rest is just practicing smoothness. By the way, a stick in a Mustang is a LOT more fun!

No a dealership wont let you learn how to drive or test drive a manual if your not buying the car....so in other words have someone you know test drive the car with you and have them drive it for all "testing".

I remember when I first learned how to drive using a stick shift. It was in a 4cyl 87 mustang (blue) and I stalled at the end of the driveway at my friends house in the summer time. (his parents car). So in MI we have curbs for almost everything and I had the back end of the car in the street and the front in the driveway.

My buddy instructed me to just give a little more gas and let out the clutch slowly and the car will get up over the curb and progress thru the incline of the driveway. Well I gave too much gas and let the clutch drop!!!!! Squealed up the driveway while his parents and their friends watched....needless to say I made it up the driveway but my buddies dad was not to happy.

This is how we learn...trial and error and practice.... I still make a mistake or 2 every now and then but its usually with a car that I have not driven (all clutches and manual gear boxes from make/model car feel different and you have to get used to them but the basics still apply!)

The first time I drove stick I ended up by myself, on an incline, at a dead stop, in traffic. I figured out REAL fast how to drive stick at that point, lol.
