I would just like to say and agree with the majority of the posts here that manuals are way more fun! I love the feeling of being in control of my car. I would 100% go with a manual mustang!
Oh and about not knowing how just take the car and practice a lot. It took me a couple of hours to get it down with my first manual after that every car i bought with a manual was eazy! and i have found that the mustang is a pretty easy stick to drive.
Good luck~!

I live on the outskirts of NYC, and frequent NYC often - I owned two autos and opted for manual. THANK GOODNESS. I'm 23, and let me tell you - there's nothing like ripping through those gears I don't know, I think in general a stick is more fun...even in traffic!

NJ09GT - where in jersey are you from?

I commute from NJ into NYC every day and still chose to go with the manual! Even with traffic here and there, I am very happy with my decision!

FTW.
We can do this with our manual as well...
You just have to multitask like mygt500 does.

Go with a stick, you won't regret it. I'm 20 from Brooklyn, NY and I didn't know how to drive stick before I bought my '00 GT about a month ago. Within a week of driving back and forth to class and work I had shifting down. A lot of people make it sound like its difficult to learn/do but its really not
The only time I thought regretted not having an automatic was being stuck for two hours coming home from school trying to get back into the city through the Holland tunnel after a long days drive. However, after clearing the tunnel it all of a sudden became fun again. Driving through city traffic really is a breeze wit h a stick just because you have all that power readily available and snow so far hasn't been an issue with it either.

At first when I finally realized that my dream of owning a Mustang was finally going to come true I wanted to buy an automatic one, just because that is what I drive now.

As the months went on and I researched more and more, my eyes got stuck on buying a manual transmission Mustang. But then reality hit.

Over where I live there are a lot of stop signs, slow speed limits, and sometimes traffic. Not to mention some hilly areas.

I dont know how to drive manual and would really love to learn on another car for when/if I get the manual Mustang so I am ready to drive it.

I plan on buying an '05/'06 Mustang GT, but dont know now if I want an auto or a manual. What do you guys think?

PS: I live in a sub-urb of Chicago...which means there is snow that will drop soon.

EDIT:
Another question for you guys...

Do you think that it is possible to talk in an Individual Seller into selling you his car, but not pay all cash upfront, and instead make payments?
Is the seller a friend or family? If so then heck yeah! If not then I doubt it....unless they are real hard up to sell and like the idea of payments (I would not as I would want cash up front!)

Damn right pascal!!!!!

I remember the 5.0L mustang yrs (had 2) and I could smoke (quit 7yrs ago nasty habit).....eat food or drink a beverage and shift while "playing around" with my g/f. Most manual drivers can do everything that an AUTO driver can just done in different ways!!!!

The shifter never interfered with any of the "fun" and "magic" that happened while driving.....sometimes you just cant wait to get home or pull over to complete the "task" at hand!

Haha, I love how this turned into how you can have "fun" with your "other half" while driving. Love it. But for real, I dont know how to drive manual. If i go to the dealership and tell them I want manual and I dont know how to drive it what will they do?

Do you have anyone that you can take with you to test drive it and give you an opinion that you would trust? Most dealers now a days are very happy to have a customer come in...just not sure about teaching you how to drive it would go over??...but you can always try. Tell them your situation, that you are very interested in buying a car if they can help you test drive it and work a great deal.....might give them food for thought. I'm sure there are some sales people out there that will do that to make a sell.
