Default Programming key FOB :Questions:

Is it possible to program a new and old key FOB if I don't currently have one? This is for a 2006 GT. I need to replace the locks and all that jazz but I don't want to have to pay dealer prices for the FOBs. Paying for the 2 keys is pricey enough.

I found some instructions online, though it's most likely in my mustang manual too, but a question is, what is "1. Ensure the vehicle is
electronically unlocked."? From my recollection that is unlocked by the remote(FOB)? Is it inevitable that I must buy at least 1 FOB from the dealer?

How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of six)
available before beginning this procedure.
Note: Ensure the brake pedal is not
depressed during this sequence.
To reprogram the remote entry
transmitters:
1. Ensure the vehicle is
electronically unlocked.

2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Cycle eight times rapidly (within
10 seconds) between the 1
(OFF/LOCK) position and 3 (ON).
Note: The eighth turn must end in the 3 (ON) position. The doors will
lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been
activated.
4. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.
Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that
this remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
5. Repeat Step 4 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.
6. Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: After 20 seconds,
you will automatically exit the programming mode. The doors will lock,
then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been exited.

I haven't tried it, but I think that electronically unlocked would include having the car locked and then unlocking it using the electronic switch on the door.

buy 2 new/used Fobs off eBay

follow the procedure you posted up.

I just did this on Monday with my Fusion key in my Stang. very easy. You can do everything by yourself in about 1 minute in the driveway. just follow the directions

the only part of this procedure that is "hard" is the cycleing of the key 8 times. just use the key you would normally drive with and all will be good

Thanks! Good news to hear. Though, did you unlock your stang with the already programed fob or did you use your key and manually unlock the door?

used my original remote

it doesn't matter though.

the PCM operates seperately from the door locks control module. so you can use your key or a remote.

you are putting too much thought into it man. just get 1-2 remotes for a 05-06 Stang. be careful about that part. in 07 Ford monkeyed with the remotes a bit. the 2000-2010 stuff works on pretty much all 2007+ cars...but 2007+ stuff doesn't work on 2006 or older...wierd
