Trade for z06?
I currently drive a 2007 Mustang GT with 38,000 miles on it. I bought it stock and did everything myself. It has a intercooled paxton novi 2200, longtubes,o/r midpipe, stingers, MGW shifter, BMR springs, some cosmetic, and 3 piece shelby wheels. Ive been tossing up the idea of getting something different and have been offered a z06 for trade. It doesnt have very much done to it and has 74,000 miles. Are they pretty reliable with that many miles? Would this be a dumb trade on my part?

The Z06
C5 Z06 is still a monster compared to a modded S197. It will likely outbrake, outhandle, and outaccelerate most modded S197's. If it's reasonably maintained and you like it, I'd go for it. What year Z06? Just make sure the money is even.
I will come out with a little secret: I also a own a Corvette. But it is a C4. The C5 is a big improvement in ergonomics and power, but both are built very similar.
Here is the real deal and it may **** some people off. The Corvette, starting with the C4 all the way to the C6, are all built just like race cars. Pop the hood on one or look underneath them and you will see the difference between ANY Mustang, wether it is a Shelby or SVT Cobra. The C4-C6 Corvettes have fully independent suspensions that use unequal length control arms--the so-called "Double wishbone", that allow the car to maintain a level tire on the ground no matter what cornering loads it is in. In addition, they position their powertrains pretty much within its own wheelbase. The C4 have a 52/48 weight distribution, while the C5-C6 have a nearly 50/50 weight distribution. In addition, they weigh no more than 3,300 lbs and carry their weight very low. This means that these cars handle like race cars with little effort due to their inherent designs. Then, GM loads them up with huge motors. The C4's started out with 205 bhp in the 80's but ended up with over 400 bhp with the ZR1's in the '90's. The C5's started out with 350 bhp and the Z06's put out 385 bhp in '01, then 405 bhp in '02-'04.
As much as I love my 2006 Mustang GT, my older C4 outhandles it any day of the week. It is also just as fast! The standard C5 with 350 bhp will easily kill Mustang GT's in any speed contest. The C5 Z06 will kill just about anything short of a C6 or Porshce GT2/3. You will need a 2010 Mustang Shelby to match the straight line performance of a C5 Z06. The Mustangs are just heavy cars and their chassis is built more for practical street driving rather than the racetrack.
Now if I were you, I would NOT trade an '07 Mustang GT for a C5 Z06 with over 70k miles on it! That is NOT an equal trade. GM did not figure out how to build a car that would last until 2004 or so!!
Your Mustang will be 5 times more reliable.
Get the Z06 as a toy to restore and enjoy but NOT to trade in your fine Mustang GT. Now if you are speaking of the new Camaro or C6 Corvette, then I would say yes go for it!

I like Corvettes, but I wouldn't get one with that many miles on it.
Edit: I understand a C5 Z06 is fast and will certainly out handle almost every Mustang, but how much faster do you really think a stock C5 Z06 is compared to a Mustang GT with a blower? I mean I imagine the OP's car has over 400whp, where the Z06 has just over 400bhp and even though it weighs less I think acceleration up until 130 or so couldn't be too different. Above that obviously the Z06 has the aero advantage.
