Most cops are OK, except in VA. Freaking Gestapo there.
The few ******** ruin it for the good guys. Always the case...

LOL! That reminds me of the movie Black Sheep w/ Chris Farley. They were in a friends police car with a hemi and nitrous and when they hit a bump it caused the nitrous bottle to leak and they got all high.

Motorcycle Cop: Tell me, officer, do you have any idea how fast you were going?
Mike: Well, I got a 426 hemi here, 3/4 cams, nitro boosters, I can get 'er up to as good as 155! Never do, though, of course, unless I'm chasing a cute chick in a Ferrari! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I guess I was goin' about... 65, tops.
Motorcycle Cop: SEVEN! SEVEN miles an hour! And normally, when I stop people, they pull onto the *shoulder*!
Motorcycle Cop: I don't know how they do things up in Buckley Town, but down here, we are caution for other drivers on the road.
Steve: Roades, Roods.
Mike: [reaches back and smacks Steve] Quiet back there. Geez, raving psycho, we arrested him because he butchered over 300 chickens and screwed a Begal. I'm taking him back to Nevada where he's wanted for Bangin Horses'.
Motorcycle Cop: [looks in the back seat and Steve smiles at him] Good God! Just make sure you get him through this state a little faster then 7 miles an hour officer...

Anyway...I've had my car inspected several times since my sequential install and no issues. I have had tons of cops see them and no issues. Some cops are just idiots.

you have to check your local laws but here is what it comes down to most times.

The sequentials can be considered "flashing" which is against some laws and some places its illegal to modify the lights at all. Those are the 2 most common sited reasons for them being illegal. I haev never known anyone actually getting a ticket for them though

As long as one red light per side illuminates and stays illuminated
while the brakes are being applied is all thats needed round here.
The other lights that sequence are just gravy.
The 2010s have sequentials OEM. Whats a cop gonna say bout that>
Its distracting? Go complain to Ford you power trippy piggy...

2010 OEM stangs have the sequencers and are not modded.
I guess they are legal but aftermarket kits are not?

What's lame is a similar thing happens with tint. A car can come factory with very dark tint, darker than the legal limit, but putting the same darkness aftermarket is illegal.

Talk about idiotic laws.

He''s fishing by stopping you. At least in MD there is nothing in the Annotated Code (traffic law book) that prohibits sequential lights on the rear. Depending on the color they will cause a problem on the front of the vehicle because it could resemble an emergency vehicle.

look, its kind of useless to talk about it on the web... Its all dependent on your state law. Unless the person your talking to is versed on your state law, your not getting good info.

Regardless of what it says specifically about the lights, usually they can fall back on the lights are part of a factory installed safety system. Most states have laws preventing you from messing with ANY factory installed and federally approved safety system. Thats why it doesn't matter what it comes on now, its not what is approved for your vehicles design.

But I'm just a person on the web too ;-) so you really have to check your state law. As someone else said, your best bet is to ask the officer what the exact code your breaking is. But its not going to matter how you ask it, if you got pulled over for something so silly, your gonna get a ticket if you ask about it.... Usually cause they wont know off the top of there head and want to shut you up for there ignorance. More then likely (I know in Connecticut anyway) if they don't know, there going to hit you with a have your vehicle state inspected ticket, and leave the regulations people to nit pick your car.

Here in Massachusettes we solved that problem a long time ago.....

We think using turn signals is a sign of weakness!
