The tire size that you should choose depends on the width of your new wheels. If you tell us just how wide they are, you'll get the informed answers that you need.

OK, now that I got that out of my system: Hey, it's your ride and why not? Yours isn't the only 'Stang I've seen with a tow hitch.

I agree with others that bigger rims/tires might not be helpful in dirt and sand.

Widest recommended tires for those wheels.

255/45 up front

285/40 out back

If it helps any, those were the GT500 tire sizes at least up through 2008. That means that there is reasonable tire mfr support for those sizes, so you'll have a few to choose from instead of being stuck with only the choice between two or no choice at all because there's only one.

The only GT500 difference is that the GT500 used 9.5" wheels all around - that the max wheel width for the fronts happened to turn out to be the min width for the rears probably didn't happen by accident.

I realize that people "get away with" wider, but doing so really is a poor idea for a car that gets driven and may well get driven hard. A show car that does 5 mph backing down off the trailer or 10 mph around the display lot isn't a "driver" in the sense of proper wheel to tire sizing.

For your 8" front wheels anyway, there isn't much available that's wider than 255 that isn't a LOT wider (275/40 IS a lot wider here).
