silly me
Just by that statement alone discredits everything else you say. You take an example of one person making 580 rwhp and equate that to mean everyone can do it. Ridiculous.

Cracked/powdered rods with hyperetic pistons (what our motors have) are not known to make gobs of horsepower. They fail frequently anywhere from 400 rwhp to 500 rwhp.

580 rwhp is the most I've ever heard of someonemaking on the stock internals.

Toi answer the question of the OP, I think Hammeron said it earlier. Somewhere between $1500 and $3000 for an entire rotating assembly.

I have seen kits advertised for $1800 which was bearings, pistons, rods, crank.

Still need:

rings
machining
gaskets
assembly lube
head fasteners

So, listen to Bruce since he just did his.

Minus the labor cost on removing an existing engine and dropping the new one in. How much money are we talking about, ballpark, for the purchase of the built motor?

One of these http://fordracingparts.com/parts/par...KeyField=10374 is about $4k from Toulsey Ford in MN.

Modmax has some for less. There's a stroker short block on s197 forums for $3500. Coast has some for less than 4k too.

Keep in mind it's just a shortblock. You still need gaskets, fasteners, fluids, etc. to complete the build.

AFAIK there aren't any 3v longblocks available or complete motors available.

from the research I did, in order to reuse the most items off your motor, your best bet is to use your own block, get the 30 over pistons, and get a good quality rotating assembly. You can get a very good assembly for about 1950 for most I have seen in either a stroker or a standard 4.6.

Something like this
http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...t.phtml?p=1552

http://www.haneymotorsport.com/HMS%2...ing%20Kits.htm

also will need a flywheel:
8 bolt flywheel from spec: $299
http://www.specclutch.com/cars/Ford/Mustang/2008/Single

Thats most of what you need. You will need some other bolts and the head gaskets, all that you can get from Ford. After that then the cost becomes what you can get labor done for, or if you can do it yourself.
