How do you guys remove the rear faux gas cap?

I have this old photo of my Screaming Yellow when it was getting repaired and they removed the gas cap... and a few other things!
No need to use anything other than WD-40, IMO. It almost literally blew off the gunk from when I pulled off my stock rear wing and had lots of residue left. Just be sure to wax the area after it's all gone.
