Default Popping tail light bulbs every 6 weeks.

Ok, maybe not every six weeks, but I popped 3 under warranty and about 7 after that. So 10 in 4 years. Has anyone had this same problem and found a solution?

Any chance you keep putting the same lousey bulbs in? If not, then I'd check what your alternator's voltage is. It might be running a bit higher than normal.

Sylvania LongLifes FTW.
Check your alternator output. Anything above
13.8 will take out the brightest bulbs (brake light filiments)
first.
Got sequentials and if so, which kit and whom makes em?
On the edge battery will raise the output voltage of the
alternator beyond the limits the brake bulbs like.

Check for a bad ground also. I've see this cause the same problems many times. The problem is that the ground may be loose causing the bulb to go on and off frequently. This On/Off sequence is what shorten's bulb's life.

Okay, I honestly never wanted to bring this up again, because it seemed like I just got jumped on for even questioning this (as you'll read in the thread), but I'm gonna put it out there anyway, as a possibility. Take a look at this. Maybe water's getting in the sockets? There, that's the last I'll say of it, because obviously it's a completely silly idea.

-Check the contacts in the sockets for signs of burning/excessive heat. Replace socket if present.
-check for moisture. Moisture will cause higher amp draw.
-If all looks ok, I have used a very fine wire file to clean the contacts in the sockets with some success.
-Alternaters generally put out 13.6-14.2 volts. To say that is a cause is unrealistic. I test alternaters everyday. Thats the range they fall in, and no lighting problems reported by customers.
