Default Pretty sure my passenger side strut or upper strut mount is busted.

I have loud loose bolt rattling sound upfront. While investigating with the hood up, I can see the top of the shock shaft move independently from the car when I lift up the car. The banging sound happens at the same time and is definitely coming from the same location. The strut mount bolts are not loose.

So how do I figure out which one is the culprit?

Not sure what you mean by "which one". Which strut mount? You have to replace them as a set anyway. You might want to get a set of the GT500 mounts. They're reasonable, and stronger.

I tried to update my title, but I'm not sure if its the strut itself or the strut mount.

Does this seem like a strut mount issue?

The upper mounts is pretty much a high mortality item.

I had a clunking sound from the front too. I recently replaced my strut mounds with the Steeda HD mounts. No more clunking up front. I did have to get a front end alignment, but the noise is gone.

I have seen them several places for $65 or so. Part # should be m-18183-a
