FRPP 4:10s ORDERED!!! :)))
I'm around 2750 at 80mph, and imo, its fine. I would still like to have a 6th gear to go into, but the engine though a lil loud (MAC exhaust) sounds good. Also if your going from 3.55's like I did, 3.73 prob don't make much sense.
I made the mistsake of NOT going sportlines, I wish i would have over the prokit. I was on the fence for 3 months and went with the "safe" bet which was the pro kit. When it came to 4.10s v/s 3.73 i wasnt going to mistake twice and couldnt be happier.
As kona said, dont fear the gear.

I paid $150 for my FRPP 4.10s (buyfordracing.com) and I believe it was another $320 for everything else (install, oil, and all kits).
No whine.
Oh nice price on the install. I'm taking it you had it installed locally?
I'm thinking of getting FRPP ones from Brenspeed so they can update my tune. A bit pricier than what you paid. $189.99. How long did the shop take to install? This is my only car lol.
Just wondering if there were any cons to having 4.10 vs the stock 3.55, this is going to be a huge change. I told myself I would only mod anything that could be returned to stock easily lol. Plus this is money being spent where I really should be saving, so would like to see both sides of the picture.

Lol, I don't want to fear the gear, but just from some light reading on 4:10s, couple things came up.
First, the loss of top end speed, how much do you loose?
Second, it turns the GT into a super gas guzzler and is not good for longer distance driving?
Third, it puts more wear and tear into the tranny in the long run?
Fourth, I don't race much as it is, in either enviroment.
This is my only car and with the way things are going, my income will be extremely limited in a few months and if it sucks that much gas, I might not even be able to afford to drive the car. So there are some concerns lingering in the back of my mind. Plus when it gets cold again, I might have to fork out for a winter set of tires.
I'm stoked about the gear, but the side effects may make me hold back.

Techincally you dont. Lets say your top speed with 3.55 is 210 (we are ignoring drag). now with 4.10s you can only go 190. So in realty yes you are limited but you will never actually get to the speeds where it comes into play.
Second, it turns the GT into a super gas guzzler and is not good for longer distance driving?
I can ge 22-24 MPG on highway trips but i only get 17ish for normal driving in the burbs at 35-50 stop and go traffic.

I dont it makes to much difference. you are constantly turning more RPM (couple hundred maybe) but its not cutting years off the life of the car or anything.
