Default Do drain plugs or sensors go here?

I have these two holes, one on each side of the block. It's been long enough and I've been distracted enough that I can't remember what goes here. I couldn't get to my old block tonight (too dark) to see what, if anything, was in the holes but I thought I'd ask here first.

One is on the passenger side near the center, and the other is on the driver side near the rear of the engine.

Both appear to go into the water jacket. Could be either a plug or a temp. sensor. If no one replies, I will try to check mine tomorrow morning.
