Default 2006 Orders

So I went to my local dealer today to put some cash down and order a '06 'vert Premium GT. They almost came right out and said keep your money. They claim that the current '06 orders will take until Nov to produce as the end of the '05 production run ran out of GT parts (upgraded dashes, convertible tops, etc). Now I'm not sure if they're tired of taking people's money, or if they're trying to shoot straight, but part of me says just wait and see, another says take the down payment and put it on a GT500, since either way I'm going to be waiting a long time.

Anyone getting a different story?

Don't know much about ordering Gt's but had a similiar experience when trying to order a GT 500. Only one dealer out of five that I called in the SO FL area would take a deposit, so I put down $750.00 and am number 4 on the list.. I got into an arguement with one guy aksing him why they haven't started a waiting list. I told him I'd come down there and throw down a grand so I could be the first on the list. He said no go. Another salesman at a very large SVT dealer down here told me flat out that the only guys getting "that car" (GT 500) were the General Manager and his buddies. What a jerk he was. I'm not rich but I want to assure myself of getting a GT 500.

Anyone heard anything else in reference to deposits, build dates, etc.

Thanks

rotten rat: I doubt that story about parts... 06 production has started and they are rolling off as I type this. My 06 should be built this week. So, find a dealer that will order an 06 for you and will not lie about how many orders are infront of you and how many GT's he gets each month.

murph: re: GT500 orders... someone someplace posted a copy of a Ford email that went out to dealers regarding allocations for gt500s. As I recall the first year numbers will be around 4000 units and they opened it up to more than just SVT dealers. I would imagine it comes down to how each dealership will handle any gt500's they are getting. I could see some that will get 1-3 just selling to the highest bidder... or like the guy you talked to. Maybe the dealership will give GM's the first crack at them. But I can't see them going for MSRP which will put them up at Corvette prices if not more.
