Automatic questions
i have a question about shifting from P to D. is it good to do it all in one stroke? i usually put it into N, and wait for it to fully complete the shift, then to D, and wait, then i go. same for putting it into P. is it better to do it in one take?
also, is it bad to turn the overdrive on/off while driving?
another thing is that occasionally when i shift into R i hear this short squeak right as it's engaging. hard to explain but does anyone have an idea what this might be?

I do mine in one motion, but I don't think it would make any difference. As for turning O/D on and off while driving... I do it all the time and have had no issues. I use it for climbing hills in slow traffic so it doesn't upshift and downshift over and over.

If the OD button caused damage when moving they would have made a lock-out circuit to prevent it.
As long as you are not rolling, how you move the shift lever is on no consequence.
Relax and drive that puppy!

I used to drive around town with my thumb on the OD button, constantly turning it off on hills so the engine wouldn't chug. It makes sense just to leave it off in the city. I no longer have this problem now, though, since I got my CAI and Brenspeed tune

Shift in one motion is fine, why would you stop in between slots?
Clearly you want to be stopped when shifting into Park and Reverse however for the best reliability of the transmission.
Only turn the O/D button off when driving in hills to keep the tranny from hunting.

O/D is 5th gear, D(rive) 4th, 3, 2, 1. So switching O/D on and off should not be a problem if used correctly. You can drive an auto as manual too, but the shifter is real loose and hard to tell when you get into a gear. At least with an auto, you don't stall lol.
