ORIGINAL: mauiboy

Well Saturday night while making a U-turn I heard a whining noise in the rear-end. Sounded similar to power steering low on fluid, anyway I took it in yesterday morning and Ford called me last night and told me my Auburn gear was bad and they would be replacing the rear-end. I'll know more tonight when I pick it up.
They also said it wasn't the first to come in with this problem.

Keep an ear out...

Damn mine is doing the EXACT same thing. Looks like I'll be doing the same.

Hmmmmm...

I noticed when I make tight turns in a parking lot... I get what I guess you could call a whining noise- also seems rear-end associated. I just chalked it up to possible tire rubbing due to the positraction.

I"ll have to pay more attention, and add it to my "List" for when I get around to my first dealership visit.

mauiboy... I have 2500 miles on my car.... When was your car built? (Mine was May 26th.)

My gt is in the shop now; gets a whine between 60 and 70; others have said they get whines at different speeds; seems to be a problem of some sort in these gt's; mine was built june 8 and has 1800 miles; if all of us who have rear end issues continue to post we may identify a trend before a new tsb is issued.

Just got off the phone with the service dept; they are having to replace the whole rear end and this gt is less than 2 months old. gotta wonder.

If the noise in mine requires a whole new rear end I'm making them give me 3.73's. Might as well get something out of the deal.LOL

just got my gt back from the shop for the rear end whine; replaced the gear and pinion assembly plus associated parts; nearly $700 billed to ford; drove it home and whine is gone. This is gonna cost them a bunch as the service manager said I was not the first and my car is only 2 months old.

O.k. here's the real question. What are they putting in our Gt's that isn't the same as the assembly line rear end? Are we going back to Ford in two months again? Are we correcting the problem or are they just pacifying us. Something we might want to ask...
