Default CAI causing problems

I posted something about this a few months back and didn't get a whole hell of a lot of a response so I wanted to see if I could get any different responses.

I have a 2008 GT bone stock, bought a C&L racer CAI combo from Brenspeed and installed it shortly after Christmas. The car was rarely driven, maybe 2500 miles over the next six months while I was on break from college and whenever mom decided it should probably be started up and driven a few miles. I would periodically have issues with the car just shutting off, maybe 6 times over that entire period of time. It happened whenever I was breaking, It shut off at stoplights and whenever I was breaking for an exit. It was very unpredictable, It happened twice in a 100 mile round trip and it might not happen again for another 500 miles or so. The car wouldnt sputter or make any noises, just shut off. I checked all of the connections and everything was tight and still had issues.

About a month ago I took it in for the 15K service so I took the part off and drove it in. Let them know I was having issues with it shutting off so they checked everything out. Of course the problem couldnt be reproduced so they didn't find anything. The part has been off for 1400+ miles and I havent had an issue... Any ideas what the problem could be? I sent Brenspeed an email yesterday afternoon and havent heard anything back yet...

It maybe a tune issue.
Which tune and octane are you running?

Check all your vacuum lines, make sure everything is tight...make sure your filter is on there solid and make sure your mass air flow is plugged in there the right way

I was running the 91 originally but flashed it back to 89 when I started having issues... I took everything off and made sure it was all put together correctly too. I'm hoping its just a tuning issue.

Definitely check w/ Brenspeed and ask them their thoughts. You can call them and ask to speak with somone in the tuning dept. They are super nice guys and do their best to answer any questions you have.
Good luck!

If Brenspeed doesnt manage to fix it try a tune file from another reputable Tuner. Doug (Bama) used to would just email you one and if it didnt fix your issue no charge, If it did drop him $50. Now that hes with AM I dont know if he can still do that.

Sometimes fro some reason a certain Tuner's file just wont get along with a certain car while anothers will.

Ive also seen an out of spec CAI cause all kinds of havoc.

Have you installed the stock air box and flashed back to the stock tune? That would be the first thing to do to determine if it's the tune or something else with the engine.

You mentioned that it happened after you flashed from 91 to 89. Did you flash back to 91 and wait to see if the symptoms continued? Have you flashed to the 87 CUSTOM tune?

Right now it is back to the stock setup, airbox and everything is flashed back to the factory settings... It was on the 91 custom tune and had problems so i flashed it down to the 87 custom, I was thinking 89 for some reason. But it was definitely the 87 since thats the lowest octane custom tune I have and I still had problems. If Brenspeed doesn't get back to me by tomorrow afternoon I'll probably go ahead and give them a call.

I was at Brenspeed last week, and as I was getting the tour from Chandler, he mentioned about the huge volume of e mails that they get each day. If I were you I would definately give them a call. I'm sure that it takes some time for them to answer all of the e mails that they recieve. They have an awesome buisness, and I'm sure they will resolve your issue.
