Default Basic maintenance Question on GT

Hi Guys! I have a 06 GT, 5 speed, 39,000 miles stock engine except for K&N cold air. I change the oil every 3k... Ive had this car since brand new.. How often do you have to change or check your rear end oil? Or Manual Trans lube?? Is there anything else i should be changing or checking? I havent even opened the hood on this since it was new other then oil changes.. Im just wondering if i should be keeping up on something im not.. The owners manual doesnt say anything really bout rear diff and manual trans... Thanks!!!

Hey Jeff,

The Transmission and Differential are high mile oils, I think Ford Recommends changing the transmission at around 60 or even higher, and I don't think the diff is recommended until almost 100k.

I changed my transmission at 35k I think, and it was really clean but I just wanted to change it out to Royal Purple. The differential, whenever I change gears/diff/axles will be changed out to Royal Purple too.

Couple things I could recommend are getting a K&N Recharger Kit to clean/re-oil your K&N Filter, and also doing a 15,000 mile or so change of your fuel filter. Both pretty easy to do jobs. Do the usual of checking belts to make sure they aren't frayed/cracked/etc... and um... that's about all I have for basic stuff.

I was wondering the same thing about my V6, my transmission is starting to feel notchy and it has just over 44,000 miles. I also have terrible gear whine and clutch chatter but I'm pretty sure that is irrelevant since there is a TSB for the whine.
