I think they (Ford) wanted to err on the side of caution. Over time, the Carbon Monoxide could build up resulting in much greater density than 100-150. Otherwise, you'd never be able to off yourself off your own exhaust fumes.

Side note: A car puts out 100-200ppm at the end of the exhaust. Should there be an exhaust leak, the PPM is MUCH higher. Like 7000 ppm.
You do present a good point... and it is better to be safe...the concentration could build up with no air flow to dilute it...but I believe that size of leak will cause problems no matter what...

A number of years ago my father had a series of minor accidents over a short period of time. The cause was determined to be carbon monoxide leaking into the passenger compartment.

A good story/warning for all of us to consider.

It's the catalytic converter that takes that 7000ppm and brings it down to 100-200ppm. Any leak before that portion of the exhaust will be MUCH denser in Carbon Monoxide than from anywhere after.

You gotta love Wikipedia....

bm2088hp, THANK YOU!! I have had the water leak for a week now and it has been raining hard in Texas. I went and washed my baby today and had about 2 gallons of water rolling around on my passenger side. I was going nuts!! I just used your fix and it is fixed! Thank you so much!!

I went to check on this... the only thing I could find on the passenger side (didn't look on the driver's side) is a small oval shaped grommet. I removed it and directly behind it was foam... is this the spot or am I missing something?

Default Thanks!

That was easy... I saw the tub around the filter full of water but couldn't find a drain- the photos were perfect.

I was going to pull the small siphon from inside the rubber gasket, but I left it in for now and will keep an eye on it.

This was a good excuse to replace the cabin air filter too I guess...

Why would there be carbon monoxide in the engine bay??? Someone forget to bolt on the headers?
