There has to be more to that Lake Story. When the tech started it, assuming the car was in gear and the e-brake was not pulled, wouldn't the car immediately stall? At most it would lurch forward a small bit, but it should not take off into a lake...

If the car lurches forward and actually 'catches', an EFI engine is far more resistant to stalling than a carbureted engine. Don't forget that 1st gear is a 3.38:1 reduction, times an axle ratio of at least 3.31. FWIW, the car will move on just the starter motor with what appears to be little difficulty (never mind how I might know this).

LOL, so how far did you "drive" your car forward with the starter motor before it was toasted?

Don't know anything about that sort of endurance limit testing. Wouldn't admit to it if I did. But if I was a betting man I'd take odds on it being more than five or ten feet.
