too much??
I dealt with JDM on the phone a few times when doing my engine rebuilt. I'm sure they know what they're doing, but was never overly impressed with their quality of service. If they had been friendlier, they may have earned my business, but my first impressions with them didn't warrant me chasing them around on the phone/email to order products. It could be that they simply have enough business that if you aren't dropping 1k+, they don't really sweat losing you that much. In my line of work, it's not rare to highball jobs you don't really want.
600 bucks and YOU have the parts?
That's not expensive.
That is WTF you gotta be fking kidding me expensive.
Why are they pushing back your date?
Are they are having trouble doing the work for the people that were in line before you?
Meaning they messed something?
Perhaps or they do not know how to get things done on time.
Either one is not good.
Changing price quotes? No exuse for that at all unless someone is misunderstanding that you
already have the parts.
But you must also realize that perhaps they had some employees that left or other type of
problem that was beyong their control.
I would be asking them WHY they are pushing back the install date and WHY they changed
their quote on you.

Yeah I called real speed in Long Island which is 1hr & 40mins from me, but they are worth a shot if there cheaper and a few people also recommended them on here. It just pisses me off that I was happy I found a cheap reputable shop and now I get this and also hear its close to $10k from them to get a whipple installed including all parts gauges pods etc.
I just drove my car to CJ Pony parts in Harrisburg over the weekend. They are 2.5 hours away from me when JDM is only 1, but their labor is $75 an hour vs JDM's $115. Best of all, for $10k, I will have the whipple, THREE cobalt gauges (boost, fuel pressure & air flow) with SOS pod and I also was able to order a MGW short throw shifter for them to install. Yes, the total will still be $10k, but at least I am getting everything I wanted with it. (I was sticking with the FRPP tune in any case) Plus, I should definitely be able to pick it up next weekend which is important because the car is my DD until I get a cheap truck.
I know JDM has a good rep and that you have to pay for it, but you also have to keep your job in mind and decide whether someone less prestigious could also handle it. If I want a custom tune, I will probably go to them for it, but right now I am happy with FRPP's.
Not sure if that's meant as a compliment or a burn . . .
In any case, I don't think I'm saying anything he doesn't know. But for 3 grand, if I had the workspace, I'd try it out if I were him. He's got a great resource (the forum) at his disposal. I'm sure the supercharger company has an install manual as well.
7 years ago I didn't know what a spark plug was. Just takes diving into a project to get comfortable.
At the end of the day its their money and they should spend it how they feel most comfortable. I just hate seeing people spend the extra money when I know it's a job that, given the proper instruction, the majority of people on here could probably do.
Edit: This is concerning the supercharger install a poster above mentioned. I have NOT attempted to do a gear install so I cannot comment as to its difficulty, though when/if the time comes, I wouldn't mind getting comfortable doing it.

The Whipple instructions are some of the best I've seen. Very clear pictures, and clear instructions. No way I'd pay a shop thousands to install that kit... and I'm nowhere near mechanically inclined either.

. You may be less prestigious than JDM or CJ, but you could save 3+ grand doing the work yourself
