Upgrade Reality Check
I agree with most that's been said. Doubt I'll ever be to the track, but I want it to be mine, sound good, and be able to get out of it's own way. Some nice appearance mods, exhaust and some performance enhancements happen to every car I own.

All of those "Here's my mod. Whadaya think?" and "Help me choose..." crowd should be chompin' at the bit to post here.
Had I felt ANY peer pressure to add performance mods I'd be aspirated. Not that I hadn't thought about it (still do) but it's not just in the cards. Money isn't an issue either. It's probably an age thing; I suppose you younger guys feel the need to mod for reasons other than your own satisfaction.
Never been to the track with my Stang but used to go many, many years ago with some wrench monkey friends. Lot's of street racing, too, where there'd sometimes be 50 or more cars until the cops ran us off. It's nice to read what these cars can do and I will "scare the $hit outta myself" from time to time. You don't need to be SC'd to break free at 60 when you drop to 3rd and go WOT and shifting at redline until you figure 130 is enough because your butt can only pucker so much....

None of the above.
No mods on my 2010 GT.
But, I have been to the track!
14.2158 @ 98.49mph No mods, 87 octane gas on a 97 degree day @ 1500ft above sea level.
My biggest problem was lack of traction so if I were to mod anything, I think I'd do some stickier tires 1st.

HP wars mean nothing to me...there's always a faster cat, ya know?
Let's face it, anyone with $$ to burn can go fast...but you just can't buy style! I've seen cars with thousands of dollars spent on here that I wouldn't hit a bull in the *** with.
If it looks good and sounds good...it's all good!

For me, modding is all about enjoyment, self-satisfaction and help relieving every day stress! It is a good way to focus on other things, other than work, kids, life and etc.
Also, it makes for good conversations at the Ford club meetings. =-)

There are two schools of thought here.
It's either about the car or it's about the drive. Sort of like buying clothes. Who do you buy clothes for, you or your peers? Do you select comfort or style?
For most of us, it's a combination of both. I think when you are young and trying to make your initial impression on society, it's more style than comfort and as you get older, it swings in the other direction.
I always get a "light 'em up!" from the younger guys and a "I always wanted one." from my peers.
I guess what I'm saying is modding your ride has a lot to do with whom you are trying to impress, yourself or "them" or a combination of both.

Everything I've bought has been for me.- ZERO peer pressure (friends or forum). That said, I haven't bought much over the past 3 years. I've been to the drag strip once.
Only performance mod I have is a CAI and a tune which is mandatory for an automatic. Otherwise is shifts like crap.
Other mods:
SLP (this is my first V8 and I want it loud)
20's, I like big wheels
Stripes and Black Spoiler. I like the way it looks. (different strips than sig, i need to update it)
gt500 chin spoiler - protects the bumper which is already scratched to hell. looks good which is a bonus.
upper and lower grilles. got them to protect my newly replaced condenser. i refuse to let a rock break another one. them looking good was also a bonus.
only other mods that are coming is tint to keep the car cool and potentially a roush front bumper. I got into a wreck (not my fault) and require a new front bumper. If insurnace pays out enough, I'm looking at a free upgrade. If not, I'm sticking with stock.
I thought about getting an SC, but I don't drag race and I would only use it to show off on the freeway. I'd rather just save up for a 5.0 or even better, a CTS-V.
If I had the time and money to drag race or autocross more, I'm sure I'd buy all the parts associated with that. But since its just a DD, there's no point in building it up like crazy.

so far , I've been happy with every mod I've made . I guess cause I kind of knew what look I was going for ,and I like going fast ! I like to get other s opinions and feed back , but it really don't affect my decision
I think it's a big boy hobby like anything else. Aside from being a mechanic I'm a semi-pro guitar player. I've had guitars costing 300 bucks to 4 grand. Play, buy, sell, trade. It's fun. I've had 3 Harleys over the last ten years. Spent stupid money modding those. Sold my last Harley I had last year to get my Stang. I said I'd never supercharge it but here Iam with a M90 Roushcharger on order. Kind of hard to pass the deal up when Roush is closing them out and selling them for damn near 2k less than when they were new! It's a steal! Kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to get blown without having to spend the current average of 6 or 7 grand. Sure I coulda got a bigger supercharger than the M90 but then your risking popping the stock block, burning up clutches, having to upgrade suspension and all that. It's like when does it ever end? Plus I'm too damn lazy after a long day at work of turning wrenches to be "fixing" stuff at home. Wrenching to mod is fun, but wrenching to "fix", especially at home is a pain in da ***.
Maybe if I had the money I would race my car. But I know how stubborn I am. I would go broke and probably lose important relationships just chasing an obsession. I walk a fine line but there are some guys that live for time slips and do whatever it takes to be king. I guess I don't get it. Maybe if I were 20 years younger I would think different. I found in life the hard way through my past that there are too many other important things I should spend my money or time on.
