Some look at it as a way to get from point
A to point B and nothing more. Key turners
as they are known.
Some just have to turn wrenches and bust knuckles
to feel alive...
Some see it as an extention of their personallity OEM.
Some gotta 'make it their own' for their extention.
Some have more $$ than brains...
Some gotta keep up with the Forum Jones...
Some think the OEM form is sloppy and can easily be improved on.

thats almost poetic man. My wife cant figure out why I had to drill holes in brand new sheet metal and put on new parts when the stuff it came with is still new and make it faster when it is too fast already (to her anyhow). I really want to mod My Ram with a HEMI but she put her foot down on that one.

I just like to personalize my car and have fun driving it. If I had been one to cave to peer pressure, I'd have never had a non-intercooled Vortech on my 09 GT, lol. I think 1/100 people agreed with me that it was a good kit, everyone else screamed gloom and doom, so I bought it anyway. Turns out it was a great kit for the money, putting down over 400 rwhp for $3700 with zero issues. Just goes to show I guess. This and every other enthusiast forum, is a forum of extremes for the most part.

Its a hobby. Most hobbies are expensive like this one, and aren't treated much different. Go look at a photography forum like someone else said, and I'll bet you'll find a bunch of people with 10k worth of equipment taking macro shots of a flower in the back yard, lol.

there are only 3 reasons to mod:
faster
look better
sound better

and when it doesn't scare you anymore, make it faster.

I like to boast about being able to swap on a Vortech V3 in about 30 minutes from supercharged to CAI, eventhough no one really cares.. I bet I can get it down to 20 minutes

"Spending money you don't have for parts you dont need to impress people you don't know"

Priceless

Its about self expression to me, someone mentioned earlier that its an extension of yourself, I feel the same way. These cars are made to be modded, whether its a shorty antenna or a supercharger; its awesome to make your car your very own

I think that sums it up for most of us.

A lot of good-hearted responses to this. I was kinda expecting a little more flaming, but you all proved me wrong.

Great thread ... mostly because I haven't bought and I'm debating what to get, 6 or 8.

I do plan on autocrossing the 'stang but I will never have to talent to be competitive so I don't need to have THE car for the class. But I know I don't want to be in Stock, but that's directly related to my personality: I have an aversion to the "norm". My Cooper has a combination of which there are less than 5000 others in the world, and I also drive arguably one of the ugliest cars made (the current xB).

This 'stang is also my midlife crisis, and as such, the GT would definitely be more satisfying in that regard (can't afford the GT500). The 'vert would help as well.

Lastly, as reflected by my monicker, the Hare holds a special place in my life and I was overjoyed to discover the Terlingua Racing Team (thus the avatar) and feel almost compelled to build an '11 TRT V6 (either on my own or if Shelby offers one.)

So, that's what driving me.
