Sunlight Protection

Sunlight Protection
Hi All
I know this may seem like a crazy question but as someone who has just moved from England (where we don't see the Sun that much) how do you protect your car against the harsh summer Sun?
My GT is also my DD and it will be left during the day in an open area where it will not get a lot of shade. (oh i am in South GA).
I was thinking that a good thick layer of polish, leave the windows open a little (to get a little air in the cabin) and to purchase one of those awful looking sun shades you place in the windscreen.
I want to try and avoid cracked dashboards and peeling paint you see on some cars.
Am i being a little crazy and over protective or is this good a plan?
Oh the Stang is black so will soak up the rays beautifully
Thanks Graeme

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it much. The sun shade in the front dash will help keep the temps down inside a nice bit, personally I wouldn't leave the windows cracked though. Makes it too easy for somebody to break into.
It's gonna be hot as hell inside though when you first get in! And if you have leather seats, put a towel over that and your shift ball if manual, those can get scorching hot too.

I wan't sure if you meant you or the car. Smearing an SPF 50 on the car isn't a good idea....
I concur with Franchi; a sun shade across the windshield, a good wax on the paint and a white towel tossed over your seat, steering wheel and shifter (if those are seeing sun) since they WILL get almost too hot to the touch on occasion.
Better yet, buy a beater and keep the Stang in the garage.
