Default Freezing Breaks

I have an issue described here:
http://www.themustangsource.com/gala...sb06_05_04.pdf
The dealer said it's $400 (200 parts 200 labor)
Seems rather ridiculous for a known issue.. is this normal?

Is your e-brake broken?
There is a TSB out on the ebrakes freezing to the caliper. I just waited until the ice thawed out, then did not use the e-brake the rest of the winter.
It depends on how long it takes them to fix it. Ask them what they charge per hour for labor. VW dealer charges like $90/hr., which is ridiculous!

Many here that have had that issue have had it done at no charge under the TSB. Most dealerships are azzholes and won't do it at no charge if you're out of warranty. You could raise a stink since it IS a design problem but I doubt you'll get anywhere.

I suspect that you could find a good local shop and with the TSB they should be able to do it for you much, much cheaper if you're not considering doing it yourself. The e-brake cable isn't rocket science.

Both prices are high IMHO.

I'm sure they have a markup on their parts (profit - not a bad word). But if you can do it yourself, which is what I plan on doing when winter is over, you can save a lot of money! I had the exact same problem and just unhooked the cables from the calipers and don't have a e-brake right now.

Just don't use your ebrake. Leave it in reverse when you get out, as it's your lowest gear. Or first if you're pointing uphill, if you like.

Exposed e-brake cable freezes, not the caliper themselves
