Default quick maybe stupid question

ok I might already know the answer to this and I'm just hoping I'm wrong

my new tires should be arriving tommarrow and I've picked the place I'm going to have mount and balance them

ok they're 255/45-18 and 285/40-18

1. as its an auto (please no flames fo getting an auto back in 2006 as I hadn't had a chance to learn stick and didn't want to learn on a nice car) ok so do I need to get bama/AM to revise my tunes for the slight differance in tire size? or will just editing it in the sct be good enough?

2. (and this is the one that has me worried) will I need to go to an alignment shop? I'm guessing its a sadily yes

I don't know why you would have to have it aligned if you were not having problems before. The SCT will correct your speedo, you don't need a new tune.

I did the same and I think my SCT had a section that allowed me to go in and tell it the new tire size. That was it. No new tune needed.

I got an alignment. 3 years later the treads are still even and tires haven't been rotated.

I was slightly worried about alignment due to the slightly differant size

as for the tune I wasn't sure if the transmition part of the tune would make use of the updated tire size or if the shift points could be off ever so slightly

thanks for the info I guess I'll just be sure to grab my SCT in the morning

oh also should I enter int he rear or the front tire size in the sct?
I know the rears are the drive wheels but its my understanding that the ABS sensores are used now for speedo and as such its in theory possible to use the ABS data from the fronts

ok I might just be over thinking it and worrying for nothing I do that sometimes when theres a shread of doubt

why are you having a place mount and balance them?...AM does that for you for free...and you can change the tire size right on the tuner

No impact on alignment.

The SCT tuner allows you to make tire revs per mile changes to account for differences in tire OD. Just get the manufacturers specs and compare that # to what you're tune currently has it set for. My old SCT II allowed changes in 10 RPM increments.
