Default Trunk clunk

Hello all. Haven't posted in many moons, still love the GT but have a problem that's bugging me.

When I hit certain bumps, I get a loud, metallic thunk from the trunk area. I am almost certain it is not in the suspension. It really sounds/behaves like it is the trunk deck lid itself, yet I can not budge it when it is latched.

It happens mostly over bumps that seem to twist the car if that makes sense. Sometimes, one "hit" will cause it to make the thunk multiple times as if whatever it is is rebounding. Ideas?

Otherwise, 20K miles, zero problems and totally rattle-free inside.

TIA

It's your magnapack mufflers.
(most likely.)

Don't think it's the mufflers. I had a rattle/clunk with one of them when I first installed so I know what that sounds like and this is different.

It sounds exactly like the sound made when the trunk is closed.

Have you actually tried wiggling the mufflers?

I know on mine anytime I hit a certain type of bump my muffler will hit the bumper where the tip sticks out. It makes a thunk, and sometimes multiple thunks, as you described. When it rebounds off the bumper and hits it again.
Could also be the hanger bouncing up and down since it's suspended in the rubbery thing.

Otherwise I have no idea, I'm sure others will post up with responses. ^-^

Just found this, could be the problem.

Something stupid like the spare tire not being tightened down enough in the well?

I put a thin foam pad under the chipboard spare tire cover...the thing bangs around...made things a lot quieter...

It is the deck lid. When I said I couldn't budge it, it hadn't occurred to me to push down on it, which is what happens when you hit a bump. D'oh.

Should be EZ fix.

Hi WeinerDog,

I'm thrilled your Mustang has been nice and quiet despite this noise! If you are unable to silence it, you may want to visit your dealer for help. Please keep me in mind if I can assist as well. Have a good afternoon!
