Sounds like a good thing to do if it's only for a month. During the winter, have it installed, and go out and start the car everyday. (Drive the beater to/from work.) Go for a short drive once a week to keep the car running well and to keep fresh fuel in it. Just saved yourself 25-30% on insurance.

That being said....I HATE Progressive. They screwed me over a while ago when my old car was broken into and gutted. They refused ALL coverage. Seems that at the bottom of my policy, in the 'small print' it said, "Progressive Insurance Group reserves the right to decline coverage for any reason w/out explaination." I have Allstate now, on the Truck AND the Car, and I like 'em. Rates are a little higher than I'd like due to some accidents...not MY fault but where I hit someone due to their stupidity. Just trying to stay as far away from other cars as I possibly can now w/ the new car.

Is the occasional sprint to 130+ considered "bad driving"?

Wow, sounds like a good deal to save. I'd do it like others pointed out, it's only for a month.

But hang in there, once you get past your 30s and get married, you will only pay 30-40 a month for complete coverage on a RWD V8 car.

NOT True!!! LOL. I'm 31. One accident due to some dumb girl who slammed on her brakes for NO reason, going 50mph down a hill, she has no license, no insurace, no registration....tapped her trunk in my big-a@@ 8000lbs truck.......INS claim...My fault!
Claim b/c some r-tard in a Volvo parked (head out) OVER the line at my apartment complex and I went to pull out (me head out too), and my tire ripped the complete front end off of his car...moving the car back into HIS spot....INS claim...MY fault!
AND......Moron w/ trash in his dump-bed w/ the door open hits a bump, 4"x4" log of wood hops out and I run it over....trashing both upper and lower ball-joints on DS of truck (going 55mph and almost flipped the truck).....INS claim...MY fault!!!

All happened w/in 10 miles (driving distance) of one another.

I get a 28% discount every 6 months when I renew... I unplugged it and plugged it back in several times, tried to only leave it plugged in when running errands. Eventually I am guessing they are going to stop discounting it... it is down to like $110 right now which is cheapest insurance I've had yet. I am not even 25 yet...

If there is a police report on file describing the first incident you can get that changed. My old insurance company (American Family) listed me being at fault for a red light runner who hit me and had no insurance... when I showed my new insurance company (Progressive) they changed it so I was not at fault and refunded me the difference in premiums I had paid thus far due to the incident being listed as my fault.

I would assume the 3rd one would be able to get removed as well depending on the police report and the 2nd one is probably doubtful to get removed

I'm at $85 a month(full cov/250 deduct) and i'm 24. It's a great deal, haven't had to deal with them yet (knock on wood) so I can't attest to their service but so far so good.

I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw the commercial! That is absurd.

Yeah...the first one, Cops did show up....less than $500 worth of damage...no police report. 3rd one, Cops basically told me to suck it, as did the county and the State. They said, "It's YOUR fault that you hit something in the road. Reguardless if it was dropped by another motorist or not. You should be more vigilant."
